Agilent GC-MS
Agilent 6890 gas chromatograph with a Gerstel MPS2 auto sampler
coupled with an Agilent 5975 inert mass selective detector.
This is a research instrument used in projects in fire debris
and explosives. It is equipped with a robotic autosampler.
CRAIC Laser Raman
CRAIC micro laser Raman. 785nm, 2.5 mw laser. 20X and 35X objectives.
This instrument is being used for teaching and research. We are currently
researching automotive paint clear coats, pigmented inks, fibers and hair dyes.
CRAIC MSP
CRAIC QDI 2000© microspectrophotometer with a 75W Xenon lamp
capable of taking UV-visible-near IR measurements from 200-900
nm in transmittance mode as well as UV and visible fluorescence
and reflectance. The system also can obtain images using a
CRAIC CCD that are viewed using IC Capture (Version 1.1.0.55) software .
This instrument is used for research and teaching. Current research
projects include fluorescent dyes for fingerprint development,
fluorescent nanoparticles for fingerprint development, human hair
dyes, automotive paint clear coats, pigmented inks, explosives,
drugs and fibers.
Microtome
Microm HM 355 S microtome. Motorized microtome capable of making better
than 3u cross sections. We use embedding media and make routine cross
sections of paint chips for research as well as hairs and fibers.
PE FTIR
Perkin Elmer Spectrum One FTIR spectrometer with Autoimage microscope
attachment. TGS and MCT detectors.. This instrument is capable of taking
high quality infrared spectra in transmittance and reflectance mode
using the microscope or transmittance and attenuated total reflectance
mode using the main bench. This instrument is used for teaching drugs,
fibers and paint analysis and for research in automobile paint clear
coats, fibers and hair dyes.
Shimadzu GC-MS
Shimadzu QP5050 pyrolysis gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer
controlled by GCMS Solutions software. This is a workhorse
teaching instrument equipped with a titanium cup pyrolysis
system that is capable of two stage pyrolysis. We use this
instrument for teaching drugs, fibers, paints, polymers and
fire residues.
TravelIR
SensIR TravelIR portable ATR FTIR spectrometer with
TGS detector and full ATR capability. These are high resolution,
portable instruments. They are used for teaching drugs, fibers,
polymers and other materials.
